Wildfire Blackgum

The Wildfire Blackgum (Nyssa sylvatica ‘Wildfire’) earns its name twice over — first in spring, when its new growth emerges in a blaze of brilliant red-orange, and again in fall, when the mature foliage ignites into scarlet, orange, and burgundy. It’s one of the few trees that delivers a true two-season color show, making it a standout specimen in any landscape.

Unlike the straight species, Wildfire’s spring flush of fiery new growth is a genuine showstopper — turning heads before most trees have even leafed out. As the season progresses, the leaves mature to a glossy dark green, then transform once more into a spectacular fall display. Plant it where it can be seen from multiple angles, and it will reward you with color from April through November.
